MONTEVALLO – Xan Shivers, a senior at Montevallo High School, recently won first alternate as Youth of the Year awarded by the Birmingham Area Boys’ and Girls’ Club. Shivers received the honor by performing at high levels academically, exhibiting tremendous involvement in various school and community activities and demonstrating quality leadership in school, her community and in her service at the local Montevallo Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

The Youth of the Year banquet was held at The Club in Birmingham on Feb. 20. Only a handful of students among thousands were invited to the banquet to be honored by Boys’ and Girls’ Club organizations, leaders, families, as well as by leaders in business, churches, schools and community organizations all across the Birmingham area.
