The White House Historical Association, founded in 1961, is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote understanding and appreciation for the White House.

“After an extensive search process, we are delighted that Steward McLaurin will be our new President. He has strong ties to the historic community, proven fundraising experience and understands the importance of our educational outreach,” Chairman of the White House Historical Association Fred Ryan stated in a news release.

McLaurin was selected from over 300 candidates who were considered for the position, Ryan said.

“I am thrilled and humbled to be named president of the White House Historical Association and I am grateful to the Board for this honor,” McLaurin said in a statement about the new position. “I am eager to work with the White House staff, the National Park Service and so many who love our American History to educate and inspire visitors to Washington and others around the world on the historical importance of the White House.”

Tom Walker, president and CEO of the American Village, expressed his congratulations to McLaurin on the position.

“We exten our heartiest congratulations to the White House Historical Association and to our colleague Stewart D. McLaurin,” Walker said. “We will miss Stewart’s great talents, knowledge and passion, but I am happy to know the White House Historical Association, one of America’s premiere historical associations, and the American public will benefit by his dedicated service.”
