The South Shelby Relay will be Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the Shelby County High School football field. Eight teams have raised more than $5,633.32 as of April 21, 2014.

Team and captains are: Shelby County B2 Brains and Boobs, Nena Goode and Renee’ Wilder; Titty Titty Bang Bang!, Helen Dean; Cats for the Cure, Cassie Kirkland; Cats Kickin’ Cancer; Womp Wars, Grant Walkup; Dell Moody, Carol Shubert, and Laura Beth Monroe Gill Team, Phoebe Donald Robinson; Paws 4 Hope, Lisa Carden; and Power Over Cancer, Anita Davis.

“Raise a Glass for the Cure” benefiting the South Shelby Relay will be Friday, May 1, 2014, (rain date May 9) from 5-7 p.m. at Lewis Lake Vineyards, 1075 Chelsea Road, Columbiana, Ala. 35051.

The fundraiser will feature vineyard’s wines, Hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $15 person and $25 couple, available at Busy Hands in Columbiana or at door. For info, contact Helen Dean 205-966-5572.

The Columbiana Beautification Board has organized its spring theme with the relay in mind: “Spring Forward with a Cure for Cancer.” Columbiana is decorated with purple bows and purple fire hydrants to paint the town purple for cancer awareness. Busy Hands, Gail’s Florist, Main Street Florist and Beautification Board are selling purple bows with proceeds benefitting the relay.

B2 team members, Nena Goode, Sherrie Bailey Booth, Jennie Creel Morris, are selling tickets for $1 for items that will be raffled off at relay. Brain cancer fighter Mollie Wilder has raised $1,300 by selling bracelets that she makes, available for purchase at Paw Paws, Renasant Bank, Davis Drug and Shear Elegance. At her school, Wilsonville Elementary, students are raising money to see one lucky teacher or administrator get a pie in the face. The teacher/administrator with the most money in their jar gets pied! This fundraiser will end on May 8.
