Shelby County once again serves as a backdrop for Calera brother-director duo Jon and Andrew Erwin’s newest movie, Moms’ Night Out.

The Erwin brothers shot parts of their first feature film, October’s Baby, in Alabaster, and they returned to the area in the summer of 2013 to film their second feature film.

Moms’ Night Out “celebrates” day-to-day parent life in a “true-to-life family comedy,” and includes scenes shot at the Pelham Police Department and in Helena.

The movie stars Sean Astin, known for his roles as Rudy in Rudy and Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Patricia Heaton and David Hunt, best known as Debra Barone and Bill Parker from television hit Everybody Loves Raymond, and award-winning country artist Trace Adkins.

“Every mom and dad in America—whether they have toddlers, tweens or teens—is going to love this movie,” Heaton said in a news release. “It’s a hilarious family-friendly celebration of the trials and triumphs of parenting-a joyous affirmation of the world’s hardest but most important job.”

Moms’ Night Out is scheduled to hit theaters Mother’s Day weekend, with early screenings at the Alabaster AmStar movie theater on May 8 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
