HUNTSVILLE— The Indian Springs School’s soccer team is one win away from an AHSAA Class 1A-4A soccer stat championship after knocking off Montgomery Academy, 4-0.

The squad notched three goals in the first half to get past the Eagles in less-than-stellar conditions at Huntsville’s John Hunt Park May 9.

Within the first ten minutes, ISS posted it’s first score of the contest, as Rakim Ali put a shot past Eagle goaltender Jay Back to put Indian Springs up 1-0 with 34:28 left in the contest.

Jeffrey Simonetti registered the next score for ISS, burying a bending, arcing shot from close to the sidelines to put the team up 2-0 at the 18:37 mark in the first half.

Less than five minutes later, Reeves Duggan added the third score of the half, netting a shot with 18:46 left in the half to put ISS up, 3-0.

Montgomery Academy came its closest to scoring with less than a minute left in the half, hitting the crossbar, but coming short of the goal.

After the intermission, Duggan added his second goal of the contest with a header to put Indian Springs up, 4-0, with 24:55 left in the game.

Neither team scored again, and ISS moved on to face Randolph in the finals. The two will square off May 10 for the 1A-4A crown.
