PELHAM—Looking for fresh products from local vendors? The Crosscreek Community Market is the place to go. Set up in the parking lot of the Crosscreek Baptist Church, at 600 Crosscreek Trail in Pelham, the market takes place every Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. through August 26.

The first edition of the market featured vendors such as Darlene’s Kitchen, Amelia’s Spicing Pecans, Bare Naked Noodle, Cantina on Wheels, Boozer Farms, Let it Snow, One Twenty Seven and Penton Farms, selling everything from embroidered clothing and farm-grown produce to handmade noodles and fresh-baked rolls.

“It was awesome, really, really great,” Darlene Womack of Darlene’s Kitchen said of the May 6 market. “The community came out and supported it really well.”

Although the location is “tucked away,” Mike Reardon of Amelia’s Spicing Pecans said the market organizers did a “phenomenal job.” An estimated more than 200 people attended the May 6 edition, creating a great positive energy, Womack said.

“The best part was seeing the enthusiasm of the community over this market,” Womack said. “That’s something we miss at the big markets.”

The vendors enjoyed the small scale of the Crosscreek Community Market, which allowed them to interact with visitors on a more personal level. Reardon said his favorite part of the experience was “introducing people to my product.”

“I think it’s given us more publicity for sure,” Womack said. “My favorite part of the market was getting out with the vendors and customers.”

Both Womack and Reardon plan to make the Crosscreek Community Market a regular part of their summer schedule.

“I’ll be going back every Tuesday,” Reardon said.

Womack said Darlene’s Kitchen will return for all but two of the Tuesday markets, and next time with “more chocolate chip cookies.”

“Everyone that came to my booth was so nice,” Womack said. “We’re still talking about it here, about what a great experience it was.
