PELHAM—The Pelham Police and Fire Departments responded to the intersection of Helena Road and Wooddale Drive on a wreck with injuries involving two vehicles at approximately 2:52 p.m. An Acura Integra was turning left onto Helena Road from Wooddale Drive and pulled out in front of a northbound Mazda pickup truck on Helena Road.

The occupants of both vehicles were injured. The driver and passenger of a Mazda pickup were transported to Shelby Baptist Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the Acura sustained critical injuries and was transported to UAB Medical Center by Lifesaver helicopter.

The traffic collision is still under investigation by the Pelham Police Department and members of the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force.
