BIRMINGHAM — EBSCO Industries announced May 13 that Chief Financial Officer David Walker has been promoted to chief operating officer and chief financial officer effective immediately.

Walker joined EBSCO in 2000 as general manager of Military Service Company before becoming EBSCO’s vice president of acquisitions in 2001. Walker led EBSCO is completing approximately 40 acquisitions.

Walker was promoted to chief financial officer in 2010, after assuming responsibility for managing the Finance Department.

As chief operating officer, Walker will maintain oversight of Finance, Tax, Legal Services and Mergers and Acquisitions, with the addition of overseeing Accounting, Administrative Services and Corporate Communications.

“With David’s proven track record I am confident in his abilities and look forward to his continuing contributions to EBSCO’s success in his new role,” EBSCO President and CEO F. Dixon Brooke Jr. said in a news release.

Said Walker: “I am humbled by the opportunity to serve in this role … As a group, our simple goal will be to enable our business units to do business more easily and more profitably.  This goal will be achieved by striving for excellence in our communications, our work product and our customer service. We will embrace change and accountability, as it will strengthen us.”

Incoming EBSCO President and CEO Tim Collins said Walker’s experience make him well suited to take on an expanded role within the company.

“I have enjoyed working with David over the last 14 years and have seen his many contributions to our success. I look forward to working with David as we strive to grow our business over the coming years,” Collins said.

In addition to Walker’s promotion, Heather Moore will become vice president of Accounting and Jason English will become vice president of Finance & Tax.

Moore, who joined EBSCO in 1991, has served in multiple capacities, with her most recent appointment as Accounting manager and assistant vice president. English, a certified public accountant, has been the director of Tax for EBSCO since 2005.
