The Alabaster Police Department reported there is “no reason for public alarm” after a May 14 incident in the Navajo Hills neighborhood “caused great concern” among subdivision residents.

In a post on its Facebook page shortly before 1 p.m. on May 15, the Alabaster Police Department wrote, “It has come to our attention that there has been social media chatter regarding an incident that occurred yesterday in Navajo Hills that has caused great concern in this neighborhood.”

According to posts in the “Navajo Hills News” and “Alabaster Citizens Community Board” Facebook pages, the incident allegedly involved an individual breaking into a house in the neighborhood and killing a pet. Both posts drew dozens of comments from residents concerned about the incident.

Alabaster Police said they were unable to reveal details in the case, but wrote, “This was an isolated domestic incident in which the perpetrator knew the homeowner, and there is no reason for public alarm.”

Police encouraged Alabaster residents to “have situational awareness no matter where you are, and always remain vigilant in reporting crime or suspicious activity to the police.”
