MONTEVALLO—On Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., local musicians will come together for a day of free music and fun at The Anglican Church of the Holy Comforter for the First Annual Music Fest.

Marilyn Smith, coordinator of the event, said that festival was a natural choice for the church.

“We love music at our church, and just thought it would be fun for the community,” Smith said.

The festival, which will raise money for church’s 2014 vacation Bible school, will feature stage performers including Dallas Perry, Wilson Hill Bluegrass Band, Mike Nicks & Company and Shelby Strummers Dulcimer Band.

All local musicians and participants are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in for an informal time to play during the Jammin’ Under the Trees, Pickin’ Time.

There will be activities for all ages, with a children’s area featuring inflatables, face painting and other kid-friendly activities.

Arts and crafts vendors will sell their goods and vendors will not be charged a fee since it is the first year for the event. There are already ten vendors registered to sell their goods, Smith said, but more vendors are welcome.

“We want everyone, even people who are normally hesitant to sell their wares,” Smith said.

Hotdogs, snacks, lemonade and other drinks will be available for purchase.

“We’re really excited about the festival and we’re looking forward to the community coming out,” Smith said. “Bring your family and come on out!”
