Shelton Reeves, 88, of Calera, went home to his Lord and Savior on May 13, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia; a brother, Donald Reeves (Sylvia); son, Richard Reeves (Rebecca); daughter, Jeannie Roddam; granddaughters, Allison Grabowski (Kevin), Kristi Zelenka (Todd), Rebecca Reeves and Sarah Miller (Ross); great-grandchildren, Abby Page, Kylie Zelenka, Kada Grabowski and Izabelle Grabowski; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Shelton was born in Decatur, Miss., on Jan. 23, 1926, to OC and Erna Belle Reeves. At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific campaign of World War II. After returning home in 1946, Shelton worked for Southern Railroad and trained as a master electrician. Later, he became a Baptist minister and pastored churches in Mississippi and Alabama. In 1974 he helped to establish an outreach mission in Calera that grew into Northside Baptist Church where he served as pastor for twenty years. While serving as pastor, Shelton volunteered as a hospital chaplain at Shelby Medical Center and started the Pastoral Care Program. On his retirement from Northside Baptist Church, Shelton became the Director of Pastoral Care at Shelby Medical Center. Shelton touched the lives of many who will remember his devotion to God, kindness and sense of humor.

Shelton was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Verla Reeves Richardson. Visitation was held on May 15 from 5-7 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on May 16 at Northside Baptist Church in Calera. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Northside Baptist Church or Shelby County Humane Society.
