L. C. Moore, 78, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at his residence. Born on April 28, 1936, in Tupelo, Miss., he was a son of the late Floyd Lemuel and Allie Mae Dodson Moore.

Mr. Moore was a graduate of Itawamba AHS, IJC, and attended Mississippi State University. On Jan. 9, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Jean Holloway Moore. Employed as a manager by South Central Bell for 30 years, he retired in 1989 to return home to Amory to fish and to dote on his grandchildren. In 2009, Mr. Moore moved back to the Birmingham area to be closer to his family. Guided by his faith and family, he was a member of Southside Baptist Church. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Mr. Moore enjoyed working with youth, supporting his children and grandchildren’s activities, fishing and teaching all his grandchildren how to fish and Christian music.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Jean Moore of Alabaster; sons, Jeff David Moore (Kathryn) of Alabaster and Joseph Murray Moore, Gillette, Wyo.; sisters, Darthy Carol Dulaney of Texas and Martha Jo Gregg of Columbus; his grandchildren who called him “Papaw,” Phillip, Adam, Jon, Suzanne and Cody; great-granddaughter, Maggie; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances; and a daughter-in-law, Joanna Moore.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on May 28 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Pastor J. D. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phillip, Adam, Jon, Suzanne and Cody Moore and Jon Dulaney. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
