ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council likely will decide in early June if it will order the demolition of a pair of dilapidated properties in the city, council members announced on May 27.

During its June 9 meeting, the City Council will hold public hearings to gather input on dilapidated properties at 304 Forest Parkway off Alabama 119 and at 10601 Shelby County 17.

After the public hearings, the council likely will decide if the city will move forward with demolishing the properties.

The Alabaster Housing Abatement Board has recommended both properties be demolished, and have declared the properties “unsafe and a public nuisance.” Both property owners have appealed the board’s decision to the City Council.

The house on Shelby County 17 has remained vacant since a fire gutted the inside of the structure several years ago, according to city leaders. Several windows on the structure have been boarded up.

The property off Forest Parkway contains only a house foundation, as a fire destroyed the house originally built on the property several years ago.
