CALERA—A Calera man is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $319,000 after being charged with two counts of distributing meth “at or near” the 6000 block of Hwy 86 in Calera.

Jason Ferrell Wilhite, 37, is also charged with the unlawful possession of suboxone, possession of drug paraphernalia including “pipe, scales, syringe and baggies” to be used for “smoking, weighing, injecting and storing a controlled substance” and illegal possession of mepherson and methocarbam, according to court documents.

Wilhite “poses risk of flight and may be a danger to the public at large,” according to a report by the district attorney.

Wilhite is currently charged with two additional counts of distribution of meth and has 11 prior arrests.

Within the past four years, Wilhite has been convicted of obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled substance and an escape charge, according to documents.

Wilhite is set to appear before Judge Dan Reeves on July 10.

Distribution of a controlled substance and the possession of a controlled substance are both felonies. If convicted of these charges, Wilhite could face between two and 20 years for each distribution of a controlled substance charge, and between one and 10 years for the possession of a controlled substance charge.
