ALABASTER – The Alabaster YMCA will work to prevent learning loss during the summer months during its “Summer Adventures in Learning” camp in June and July.

The six-week camp is open to rising third-through-fifth-graders who are at-risk for summer learning loss. All participants must take a pre-test prior to beginning the program.

The program will run from June 9-July 18, and will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each weekday. Morning extended care will be offered from 7-9 a.m., and afternoon extended care will be from 4-6:30 p.m.

Cost for the program is $50 per week, and financial assistance is available.

The summer learning program will feature “fun, hands-on activities” to make the sessions “feel like summer camp and not like summer school,” read a flier distributed by the Alabaster YMCA.

The summer camp is funded by a grant from several area donors, including Alabama Power Foundation, The Belk Foundation, The Caring Foundation of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, Daniel Foundation of Alabama, Independent Presbyterian Church Foundation, Joseph S. Bruno Charitable Foundation, The Junior League of Birmingham, Mike & Gillian Goodrich Foundation and United Way of Central Alabama.
