MONTEVALLO—The Boys and Girls Club in Montevallo is selling boston butts and ribs to raise money for the summer program, which is serving 222 kids this year.

“They kind of help us if we don’t have anything to do over the summer,” said camper Brenee Robinson, who cited swimming, basketball, dodge ball and community service as some of her favorite camp activities.

“We get to meet new friends, too,” camper Cala White said.

The ribs are $20 for a slab, and the boston butts are $30. Those interested in purchasing the meat can call 665-4466 through June 27 to place an order. Boys and Girls club volunteers will also be taking orders at the June 23 farmer’s market in Montevallo.

“We are hoping to break our record this year with a goal of $2,000. While that is not a big amount when you consider the cost to run our program, every little bit helps and this is one way the kids can be directly involved in fund-raising,” said Freda Shivers, director of the Montevallo Boys and Girls Club.

Buyers can pick up their purchase at the Boys and Girls Club building between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on July 2. Orders not picked up during this time will be resold or donated.
