Samuel Ellis Hughes, age 85, of Brierfield, died on June 17, 2014, in Alabaster.

Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Gomez Hughes. He is survived by his daughter, Olivia Hughes Campbell (Jammie) of Brierfield; his son, Samuel Hughes (Jennifer) of Pelham; three grandchildren, Austin Dupree, Alexandria Campbell and Mason Hughes; one brother, Marshall Hughes (Laurine) of Columbiana; two sisters, Elsie Stagner and Faye Shoemaker, both of Columbiana; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

There will be visitation for Mr. Hughes on June 19 from 6–8 p.m. in the parlor at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo. His funeral service will be on June 20 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Church in Chelsea. He will lie in state from 1–2 p.m. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
