A Pelham man is being held in the Douglas, Ga., County Jail after allegedly causing an accident resulting in the death a Douglasville, Ga., woman on June 25.

According to the Douglas County Sentinel Newspaper, Dewey Calhoun Green, 23, has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery after allegedly killing Janice Pitts, 53, with his car in front of her “adult daughter” and granddaughter.

According to Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womack, Green exited Interstate 20 and rear-ended the victim’s car, which “was sitting in the turn lane waiting to turn left.” Green allegedly “rammed” the victim’s vehicle repeatedly and “pushed it about 38 feet” forward.

When the “female occupant got out” of the vehicle to survey any damage, Green allegedly “pinned” her between “the passenger side of his truck and the driver’s side of her vehicle,” Womack said, he then allegedly “put it (his truck) in reverse and ran over her backwards,” killing her.

Green allegedly attempted to flee the scene of the crime, but ran his truck “up on an embankment in front of Walgreens,” whereupon onlookers apprehended and held him until law enforcement arrived, Womack said.

“We’ve gotten a warrant for his blood,” Womack said, noting a sample has been sent to the toxicology lab for testing.

Womack said Green was passing through Douglasville on his way to Atlanta.

“He was supposedly traveling to Atlanta to see his girlfriend,” Womack said.

Womack said Green is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, June 27.
