George Ronald Conn, beloved husband, father, brother, friend and “Pop” passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014, after a short, but hard fought battle with multiple myeloma cancer. He was 66 years old. Ronny was surrounded by his wife of 47 years, Sara Mooney Conn, and the other loves of his life when he went home for his ultimate healing.

He was born in Talladega County in 1948, but moved to Shelby County when he was a young boy and lived the majority of his life in Columbiana. He graduated from Shelby County High School in 1967 and married his neighbor and childhood sweetheart after graduation. Ronny served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968–1969 and finished his service in 1970. While serving his country he was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. Throughout his life, Ronny was an active member of his community. He loved life and was happiest spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching and coaching youth sports and was an avid Alabama fan, fisherman and golfer.

Mr. Conn is preceded in death by his parents, George Franklin Conn and Annie Viola Rowe Conn; and his sisters, Jeanette Fretwell, Elsie Parker and Barbara Horn. He is survived by his wife, Sara Mooney Conn; daughters, Angela Nash (Chris), Michele Gay (Keith), Ali Payne (Chris) and Beth Horton (Brandon); grandchildren, Sara Catherine Nash, Chip Nash, Molly Beth Gay, Jon Michael Gay, Caroline Payne, Josie Payne and one Horton grandchild due in December; sister, Linda Gail Livingston; brother, Michael Conn; brother-in-law, Jerry Mooney; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 1, at Columbiana United Methodist Church. He will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at Columbiana United Methodist Church with graveside service following at Columbiana City Cemetery with Rev. Buster Timmons officiating. Bolton Funeral Home of Columbiana is directing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to the Ronny Conn SCHS Softball Scholarship Fund, First United Security Bank, P.O. Box 110, Columbiana, AL 35051.
