Calera man killed in weekend crash

A 30-year-old Calera man was killed during an Independence Day weekend crash on U.S. 80 in Lowndes County, according to the Alabama State Troopers office.

Justin McDowell died when his 2006 Mercedes Benz traveling left the road while traveling eastbound and overturned at 7:27 p.m. on Sunday, July 6.

The wreck happened at the 100 mile marker of U.S. 80, which is about one mile east of the Dallas County line. McDowell’s vehicle was the only vehicle involved in the wreck.

As of July 7, the crash was still being investigated by state troopers.
