MT LAUREL — JohnsonKreis Construction will be hosting its 11th Annual Shake and Bake 5k benefitting NorthStar Soccer Club in the Town of Mt Laurel Aug. 2.

“Every penny that is made goes to the charity,” said Bill Kreis, partner of JohnsonKreis Construction. “They have a tremendous impact…We’re big fans of them, and like to do whatever we can to help them.”

NorthStar Soccer Club is part of NorthStar Youth Ministries, a Birmingham nonprofit ministry founded in 1996 to provide after school, athletic and academic services to hundreds of children in the Legion Field area.

“NorthStar is a hidden jewel,” said Kreis. “They’re making a big difference in (the children’s) lives.”

The Shake and Bake, which is traditionally held in conjunction with the farmers’ market, will be centered in a small park behind the Mt Laurel Fire Department.

Various vendors, including Jim ‘N Nick’s and Steel City Pops, will offer their goods.

The race will kick off at 8 a.m. after registration.

Because of its location in the town of Mt Laurel, most of the race will be shaded.

Runners will “loop in and around the town of Mt Laurel,” said Kreis. “That way, everyone gets to see a little bit of everything.”

Typically, Mt Laurel residents cheer the racers from their front porches. Others cheer from the sidelines.

Prizes will be awarded after the race.

“It’s a really race-friendly atmosphere,” Kreis said. Runners from all over Birmingham participate in the certified 5k.

JohnsonKreis Construction thanked Mt Laurel and EBSCO Industries, Inc. for allowing the 5k to take place in the town.

Early registration will be June 20 – Aug. 1, $25.

Day-of registration will be $30.

Day-of registration and check-in will be 6:30 – 7:45 a.m.
