ALABASTER—APH Radio is streaming online! Located in Alabaster, the new nonprofit 99.9 FM will soon hit the Shelby County airwaves.

APH is an acronym for the primary cities the station will be impacting: Alabaster, Pelham and Helena.

Now officially approved by the Federal Communications Commission, the family friendly station is currently in the process of ordering and installing antennas and transmission equipment for its newly constructed studio. The installations are expected to be completed by July 21.

On air streaming is anticipated to begin soon afterward.

“It’s an end and a beginning at the same time,” said general manager Gene Rowley. “We’re about to start doing what we’ve been promising to do for the past 90 days.”

APH Radio is on a mission. The station aims to make a difference in the Shelby County community by providing funds for and raising awareness of local ministries, nonprofits, charities, and other such organizations.

“The people out there that are doing something good for the community… one, they need funding, and two, nobody knows they’re there,” Rowley said.

These funds will be provided by donations given to the station by local businesses and organizations in exchange for advertisement.

Headed by Chairman Jane Scott, APH Radio’s volunteer Five-Member Giving Committee will direct and disperse the funds appropriately.

In the meantime, APH is broadcasting a wide variety of genres and shows online and through the APH Radio app freely available for both Android and Apple devices.

Rowley hosts a weekday morning show flexibly 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. Saturday broadcasts include The Travel Voice with Becky Beall 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., Legal Matters with attorney John Aaron 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. and Roots Music 101 with Bruce Andrews 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.

APH Radio is looking for local profit and nonprofit businesses and organizations to work with and learn about.

APH Radio is also interested in broadcasting high school football games. Hope Christian School in Pelham is the “first football team to come onboard,” said Rowley. Games will be broadcasted live both on air and online.

The radio station anticipates broadcasting other highs school sports, as well.
