University of Montevallo baseball alumni Will Fulmer and Devon Davis recently earned promotions in the first month with their respective professional baseball organizations.

Fulmer, drafted by the New York Mets in the 22^nd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, was called up to the Mets’ Class A short season affiliate in the New York-Penn League, the Brooklyn Cyclones in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Davis, who signed with the Chicago White Sox as an undrafted free agent, moved up to join the Great Falls Voyagers, the White Sox’ Rookie affiliate in Great Falls, Montana in the Pioneer League.

Fulmer began his professional career with the Mets’ Gulf Coast League affiliate in Port St. Lucie, Fla., hitting .333 and driving in four runs. Fulmer earned the promotion soon after a 3-for-5 performance with a double against the Miami Marlins’ Gulf Coast League affiliate June 24. Fulmer drove in two runs and scored one run in the game.

Fulmer is 4-for-21 in his first eight games with the Cyclones, who play at the scenic MCU Park on Coney Island.

Davis started out his career with the White Sox’ Arizona League affiliate in Phoenix, Ariz. Davis didn’t allow a run while striking out eight in 3 2/3 innings in a pair of relief appearances in Arizona before earning a promotion to Great Falls. Davis, who struck out five of the six batters he faced in his first appearance in professional baseball, gave up just two hits in two appearances.

Davis struck out five while allowing one hit in two innings against the Seattle Mariners’ Arizona League affiliate June 21 before striking out three and allowing one hit against the Texas Rangers’ affiliate June 26.

Davis owns a 2.08 earned run average in three relief appearances with the Voyagers. Davis struck out the side in his first appearance in Great Falls in the Voyagers’ game July 3 against the Helena Brewers, an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

The minor league seasons for both Fulmer and Davis will continue through the end of August.
