Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and pastor, Gary Ray Kendrick, of Calera, went to be with our Lord on Aug. 1. He was also known as Pete, Brother Gary and Lala.

Gary graduated from Woodlawn High School, Howard (Samford) University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Gary was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He served as pastor of six churches in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. In his retirement years, he worked at Wal-Mart in Calera as a greeter.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Elizabeth Tubbs Kendrick; daughter, Gara Lucas (Brian) of Thorsby; and son, Sean Kendrick (Paige) of Calera. Three grandchildren, who called him Lala, are Bailey Lucas, Cody Lucas and Mia Paige Kendrick. Sister, Eugenia McIntosh of Guntersville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Clessie Kendrick; sister, Margaret Ganster; and brother, E. Bentley Kendrick Jr.

A praise/memorial service will be held Aug. 5 at First Baptist Church Alabaster at 7 p.m. A family burial service was held earlier on Aug. 2 at Montevallo City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Alabaster.
