ALABASTER – Alabaster City School System employees’ salaries will remain the same after the city’s Board of Education passed its first salary schedule during an Aug. 11 meeting.

The School Board voted unanimously to approve the salary schedule, which was built by ACS Coordinator of Human Resources Dr. Latanza Harrison using input from the Alabama Education Association. The new salary schedule will go into effect on Oct. 1, said Alabaster School Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers.

During its first year of operation, the Alabaster School System adopted the salary schedule used by the Shelby County School System, of which Alabaster was a part before forming its own school system in 2013.

The new ACS salary schedule will not have an effect on pay amounts for employees, but the new plan did remove job descriptions for currently unfilled positions not necessary for a school system of Alabaster’s size, Vickers said during an interview after the meeting.

“Shelby County is a much larger system. We’ve just removed the positions we didn’t have a need for,” Vickers said, noting no current employees will be affected by the new schedule. “I want to thank Dr. Harrison for all the hard work she put into this.”
