HELENA—The Helena Fire Department responded to a report of a “residential structure fire” in the Old Cahaba neighborhood off of Highway 52 in Helena at 5:13 p.m. on Aug. 12.

According to information released by the Fire Department, “the first unit arrived on scene at 5:18 p.m. to find a single story one family home with flames coming thorough the roof.” The fire was contained to the single structure and extinguished.

Although home when the fire began, all occupants of the house escaped unharmed, Helena Fire Chief John Wilder said in an Aug. 13 phone interview.

Three firefighters were treated for heat-related problems stemming from the incident and were all released, Wilder confirmed.

The Helena Fire Department has not released any information regarding the cause of the fire, however Wilder said it does not appear to be anything “suspicious.”

“The fire is still under investigation,” Wilder said. “We’ve got some ideas, but we won’t release anything until we’re 100 percent sure.”

Wilder said more information will likely be available in the coming days.
