ALABASTER -All lanes of Interstate 65 have now reopened in Alabaster after the city’s fire department cleared a vehicle fire on Aug. 15.

In a Facebook post at about 3:40 p.m., the fire department said the vehicle fire was near the 235 mile marker in the southbound lanes of I-65. At about 4:35 p.m., the department said all lanes of I-65 had reopened.

The Alabaster Fire Department’s update came a few minutes after the Alabama State Troopers Office issued information about a tractor trailer fire near the 279 mile marker on I-65 in Jefferson County.

“The vehicle is a tractor trailer tanker and is fully engulfed in fire. All lanes (northbound) and (southbound) are closed at this time,” Alabama Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve Jarrett wrote about the Jefferson County 18-wheeler fire. As of about 4 p.m. on Aug. 15, the far right southbound lane of I-65 near the 279 mile marker had reopened to traffic.
