The Calera Police Department arrested Larry Dean Broadhead on Aug. 20 and charged him with felony counts of trafficking methamphetamine, distribution of a controlled substance, possession of an illegal firearm and unlawful possession of manufacturing paraphernalia.

According to his arrest warrant, Broadhead allegedly was in possession of 267 grams of crystal methamphetamine in the 8300 block of U.S. 31 in Calera on April 11, which resulted in the trafficking charge. According to Alabama law, possession of more than 28 grams of crystal methamphetamine warrants a trafficking charge.

According to arrest warrants, Broadhead also allegedly had a pistol in his possession on April 11 after he was previously convicted of a violent crime, which led to the possession of an illegal firearm charge.

Broadhead’s unlawful possession of manufacturing paraphernalia charge came when he allegedly intended to deliver a glass pipe, a butane lighter, digital scales and plastic baggies on April 11.

Broadhead also has been charged with allegedly distributing methamphetamine in the 1000 block of U.S. 31 in Alabaster on Oct. 24, 2013, according to his arrest warrants.

Trafficking methamphetamine is a Class A felony, and is punishable by up to life in prison upon conviction. If convicted of the distribution of a controlled substance charge, which is a Class B felony, Broadhead could face between two and 20 years in prison.

Unlawful possession of manufacturing paraphernalia and possession of an illegal firearm are Class C felonies, and are punishable by up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.

Broadhead is scheduled to appear in the Shelby County Courthouse for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 24 at 8:30 a.m.
