Kenneth Devane Strickland, age 53, of Alabaster, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 27, 2014. He was born in Selma and graduated from Pelham High School. Ken was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked for Southern Directional. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Devane Strickland and Eleanor Ruth Amason; and his father-in-law, Royce Nash. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Tammy Nash Strickland; son, Kyle Strickland; daughter Haylee Strickland; brother, Robert J. Strickland (Alicia) of Moody; nephews, Nathan Strickland, Brent Strickland and Ryan Strickland; mother-in-law, Linda Kirby (Mike) of Tupelo, Miss.; sister-in-law, Tracy Nash (Jeff) of Hoover; and aunts, Lillian Deavers, Joyce Freeman, Janet Mathis and Willie Mae Seales.
The funeral service was held on Sept. 4 at 1:30 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo) with Rev. Tom Winter officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Burial was at Alabama National Cemetery at 2:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Haylee Strickland college fund, donations will be accepted at any Regions Bank, donations in Ken’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, Alabama National Cemetery Gift Fund, or the Alabama Wildlife Federation.
