Shelby County BOE approves personnel during Sept. 4 meeting

ALABASTER—The Shelby County BOE unanimously approved personnel for key positions during their Sept. 4 meeting at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center.

Michelle Hall, who has 20 years experience in education, was approved as the new supervisor for library media and fine arts. Hall recently served as program specialist for middle school, and has also worked as the gifted education lead teacher for Shelby County Schools.

Hall received her bachelor’s degree in education from Presbyterian College and her master’s degree from the University of Alabama.

Superintendent Randy Fuller noted that Hall was “under the weather,” but would speak to the board at a later date.

Brent Tolbert was named supervisor of academic data collection, data management, accountability and testing, a position he joked, “may be the longest title” in Shelby County Schools.

Tolbert has 20 years of experience in education, and recently served as principal at Calera Middle School. Tolbert earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in music education from the University of Alabama, as well as an educational specialist degree in educational administration from the University of Montevallo.

“Shelby County Schools are known as leaders in the state of Alabama and I want to make sure we prepare our students,” Tolbert told the board, noting he is “excited” and “looking forward” to his new role.

Julie Godfrey was approved as the school to career resource specialist. Godfrey has more than 16 years of experience in education, and was most recently the business teacher at Oak Mountain High School. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

“I am very much looking forward to this new opportunity,” Godfrey told board members. “This is something I am very passionate about.”
