PELHAM—The Pelham City Council is accepting applications to fill the city’s Storm Water Regulations Board. Applications may be sent to Pelham City Hall and will be accepted until Oct. 1, city officials confirmed during a Sept. 8 City Council meeting.

“We’re looking for people who can help us and help us improve our processes,” City Council President Rick Hayes said during the Sept. 8 meeting.

The five-member board has sat vacant since its establishment in 1998 by Ordinance No. 328. Once filled, the board will review and oversee requirements, actions and practices related to the handling of storm water in the city of Pelham.

Besides being a resident of Pelham, there are no specific requirements for applicants. However, Hayes said the City Council is looking for those who “have done some storm water work in the past” or “have a basic skillset or basic knowledge level” in the area.

In order to apply, interested candidates must submit a “letter of interest” including a brief bio and outlining reasons of interest in serving on the Storm Water Regulations Board. Candidates may also include a resume listing experience.

All applications will be reviewed and evaluated, and five candidates will be chosen by the City Council.

“We will review them and discuss them openly in a council meeting,” Hayes explained, adding the council will conduct candidate interview if necessary.

“It will totally depend on how many and how diverse (the applicants are)” Hayes said, noting the City Council would like to have group with differing backgrounds and perspectives.

According to Ordinance No. 328, the each of the Storm Water Regulations Board’s five members will serve a four-year term. The board will hold “semiannual meetings” and on an as-needed basis, as determined by the board.
