FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Church at Shelby Crossings will begin a second morning worship service on Sunday, Sept. 14. The two services will be at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and will be identical in content. There will be adult Bible studies and children’s activities running simultaneously during both time slots.

Pastor Ken Letson said the church has seen significant growth over the past year, and expects the move to help alleviate crowded conditions.

“We are essentially able to double our space with the one move,” said Letson, who will celebrate his fifth anniversary as pastor at Shelby Crossings in September. “And it also allows for plenty of room for continued growth in the future.”

The second service will also offer a second option for those who prefer an earlier worship time.

“This provides more opportunity for those who for whatever reason would rather attend church at an earlier time,” said Letson. “It’s a win-win.”

The new schedule will include adult, youth and college Life Groups during the 9 a.m. hour, along with Bible lessons for children in grades first through sixth, preschool choir for preschoolers, and nursery for little ones.  During the 10:30 a.m. service, there will also be adult Life Groups, as well as Pathway for children (grades first-sixth), Bible lessons for preschoolers and nursery for the little ones.

Shelby Crossings is located at 532 George Roy Parkway in Calera, just off Interstate 65 next to Camping World. The church has been renting the warehouse buildings where it currently meets for worship since 2004, but is also on the lookout for permanent facilities for the future. One of the three buildings houses the church offices and adult and youth education spaces, another is the Kids Crossings children’s building, and the third is the worship center, which seats about 300.
