PELHAM—Pelham City Schools parents expressed their appreciation for the new city school system on Sept. 12 through a donation to Pelham High School.

Matthew and Stephanie Bass have three children in the Pelham City School System. The Bass family recently relocated to Pelham after taking ownership of a UPS Store in Hoover, before that, Stephanie Bass worked as a public school teacher.

“We have a tenth grader here,” Stephanie Bass said. “We just appreciate what the public schools do for our students.”

“We know schools aren’t just overflowing with money,” Matthew Bass added, noting his wife’s experience working in a public school system.

Stephanie and Matthew Bass highlighted their experience at the PHS open house on Sept. 11, noting they were impressed by the quality of teaching and especially their daughter’s math teacher, Kerri Ross.

“She was great,” Stephanie Bass said.

“She records all of her lectures and posts them to her website,” Matthew Bass added.

Although Stephanie and Matthew Bass did not specify a use for the donation, PHS Principal Dr. Jason Yohn said the school would “put it back in the classroom in some way or another to help teachers.”

“We’ll put it in our general fund,” Yohn said. “We’re still in the process of determining what our needs are.”

Yohn also stressed the importance of the sentiment behind the donation from the Bass family.

“It’s just important for our community to show support to the school, not all the time with money,” Yohn said.
