COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Commission met Sept. 22 to discuss a variety of topics including approving the 2015 budget and approving the installation and maintenance of traffic signals in the City of Helena at the intersection of Highway 52 and Hillsboro Parkway.

The new budget for 2015 includes a proposed revenue of over $91 million. The 2014 revenue budget was over $86 million. The proposed expenditures for 2015 are $90.7 million leaving a window of nearly $300,000 of revenue for the fiscal year.

New traffic control signals and new street lighting will be placed at the Helena intersection.

Also discussed at the meeting was the upcoming roadwork on Valleydale Road between U.S. 280 and Caldwell Mill Road each night. The Shelby County Highway Department will be repaving the road.

The Highway Department will repave the road nightly from 6 p.m.-6 a.m. for the next few weeks, and is encouraging motorists to use extra caution when traveling on the road during those times.

“Please use caution and slow down when workers are present,” read a Highway Department press release.
