Oscar “Dick” Liddell, age 82, passed on Sept. 20 at 1:40 pm in Broward General Hospital Fort Lauderdale, Fl. He resided on Lay Lake, Columbiana, Al. He had just completed a 21 day cruise where he suffered an attack of congestive heart failure. He had been diagnosed with terminal cancer 3 years prior and only given 6 months to live. He told the Doctors he refused to accept he only had 6 months to live and refused any treatment that might reduce the quality of his life. He continued doing all of the things he enjoyed most, fishing, dining with friends, playing rook, entertaining friends and family at parties in his lake home, enjoying piano and songs preformed by his best friend and past pastor and his wife, as they are part of his favorite gospel quartet, “The Singing Churchman.” Rather than give up on life, he and his son spent his last years cruising. He went on 18 cruises in the last 2 years . He was a simple man; he enjoyed the simple things in life: friends, family, fishing (give him a rubber worm, fishing pole and his pipe and he would be content for hours catching a few bass), rook, food, hunting, travel and church.  He was a people person. He was a very loving, generous and giving man! He loved God and all his children.  He was a man of strong Christian Faith and was always very involved in church.  He served on various committees (pulpit, building, finance, fund raising) in the various churches he was member of.

He was born to Oscar and Mary Liddell in Ackerman, MS on Nov. 26, 1931. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He had his own successful insurance agency, Liddell Agency. This started in Louisville, KY and ended in Columbiana when he was 80. He was a top salesman and won numerous trips around the world.  He visited Israel and the places Jesus walked.

He is preceded in death by his best friend, partner and wife: Erna Jean “Jeannie” Liddell; mother: Mary A. Blain; father: Oscar B. Liddell: brothers: Billy, Olan, Steve, John and sister: Tommy. He is survived by his son: Terry L. Liddell; granddaughter: Tammey Elliott; great grandaughter: Kylee Elliott; brothers-in-law: Lennis “Bubba” Caudill and Lee; sister-in-law: Sharon Caudill; sister: Lois; Nieces: Leslie Drury, Elaine “Laney” Turpin and Alison Lausche.
