CECIL — Coosa Valley Academy fell on the road in an AISA contest at Macon-East. The Rebels were defeated by the Knights 34-7.

The Rebels took advantage of an Alex Trott fumble recovery at the Rebels own 18 to open the scoring. Coosa Valley drove 82 yards in 10 plays, culminating with John Taylor connecting with Easton Hopkins on an 18-yard pass on fourth down to go up 7-0. Miles Sharp added the PAT with 3:52 to play in the first quarter.

The Knights answered behind the running of Tyler Sheehan, going 74 yards in four plays to tie the game with 1:36 to go in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Macon-East take control of the game. The Knights took advantage of several Rebel miscues to score three touchdowns in a nine-minute span to lead at the half 28-7.

The second half saw both teams move the ball but drives were stopped by penalties and turnovers. The Rebels stopped the Knights with another fumble recovery at its own 15.  Macon East then halted a Coosa Valley drive at its 31 with a fourth down stop.

On the next play from scrimmage Sheehan ran 69 yards for the final touchdown of the game with 5:01 left in the third quarter. The PAT made the score 34-7.

Coosa Valley was led by Mason Houston, who was 9-of-16 passing for 109 yards. Easton Hopkins led the rushing attack with 49 yards on seven carries and had seven receptions for 126 yards. Walker Jones led the defense with 13 tackles, while Alex Trott had two fumble recoveries.

Coach Bob Taylor said he saw some positives in the loss.

“We continue to improve,” he said. “We had some opportunities, but we had young mistakes. We played a very good football team tonight with a good player in Sheehan. We are getting better.”

The Rebels now move on to face Northside Methodist at home on Oct. 3.
