CALERA – The Calera Junior Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a homecoming open house at Calera High School Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. for any students, parents or community members who would like to tour the school and see the pride of the Eagle Spirit.

There will be a volleyball game the night of the open house and then Friday, Oct. 10 the Calera High School football team will be hosting the Helena High School football team in a key homecoming region game.

Before the excitement of the game and crowning of the homecoming king and queen there will be plenty of activities the week leading up to the big game.

The CJCC student’s have already hosted a movie night at the stadium earlier this year and they continue to plan community minded events for the future such as the open house.

Each grade will be decorating the walls and halls of the school around a certain theme. The community will have the opportunity to view their hard work and planning the night of Oct. 7.

Calera High School Principal Joel Dixon praised the students on the Junior Chamber of Commerce for their involvement within the community and the way they represent the school and city.

“It’s worth adding that these kids are awesome…driven and excited,” said Dixon. “I’ve been deeply impressed with how big of a picture these kids see. All their ideas have been very community minded.”

The students on the chamber went through an application and screening process before being selected. They will be missing part of school on three different occasions to meet with the regular Calera Chamber of Commerce to see what kinds of things they encounter and do on a daily basis.

“These students are our future leaders and we’re excited about it,” added Dixon.
