CALERA – The annual Lady Legacy Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Monday, Oct. 13 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Timberline Golf Club.

The tournament is open to all amateur women golfers who are residents of Shelby, Jefferson, Blount, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa or Walker counties.

The purpose of the tournament is to celebrate the end of the year raising money for the scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded every year to a high school senior girl who lives within the six counties listed above and in need of financial help. The other criteria the board of directors look at when awarding the scholarship are the girls’ grades and community service involvement.

The girls will meet with the board sometime in April for an interview and then the board will decide who receives the scholarship and present it to the recipient in May.

The scholarship awarded is for a four-year scholarship in the state of Alabama worth $16,000.

Along with the golf tournament, lunch will be served followed by an awards presentation.

Cathy Clayton, who serves on the board of directors, explained how the Lady Legacy Foundation has helped out girls in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

“This is the 21^st tournament and the foundation has given more than $153,000 in scholarships,” said Clayton. “We give grants every year to middle and high school women’s golf programs and have given over $50,000 in grants to those programs.”

According to the Lady Legacy Scholarship Foundation mission statement, the foundation serves all female golfers in the counties of Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount, Tuscaloosa and Walker by providing educational services and competition with integrity in the true spirit of the game of golf. The foundation supports junior golf and high school girls’ golf programs and provides college scholarships to deserving female golfers.

Any donations made to the foundation are all tax deductible.
