HELENA—Drivers may have noticed heavier traffic in Helena on Oct. 3. Backups were caused when two trees fell across Highway 52 West near the Cahaba River Bridge.

“We got the call a little after 3 p.m.,” Helena Police Detective Sgt. Chris Rollan said.

As of 4 p.m. on Oct. 3, Police and emergency crews had removed one tree from the road and were working to remove the larger second tree.

“We have street crews and emergency crews working to (remove the second tree),” Rollan said, adding he expected the road to be completely clear in 30 minutes.

Rollan said it was unclear what caused the trees to fall, although heavy rains the previous night could have been a factor.

No injuries have been reported from the falling trees.
