PELHAM—Celebrate Halloween early with the Alabama Wildlife Center. On Saturday, Oct. 25, the AWC is hosting Owl-O-Ween, a family-friendly event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 100 Terrace Drive in Oak Mountain State Park.

Owl-O-Ween offers fun for children of all ages. There will be candy, crafts, games and barn owl cookies to decorate throughout the event. Story time, featuring “Owl Moon,” will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

Children will be able to meet Alabama’s native owls and the world’s largest owl species during a special Birds of Prey presentation at noon and 1:15 p.m.

Admission to the event is free with admission to Oak Mountain State Park, which is $3 for adults, $1 for children ages six to 11 and seniors ages 62 and older, and free for children ages five and younger.

A nonprofit organization, the AWC treats nearly 2,000 birds from more than 100 species each year at the clinic located in Oak Mountain State Park. The AWC also presents educational programs and maintains Treetop Nature Trail, which houses birds that have been rehabilitated but cannot be released into the wild due to the nature of their injures.
