Last Saturday, Muriel and I had the privilege of attending the 50th wedding anniversary of our dear friends Donnie and Karen Oswalt. (Donnie and Karen are the parents of our son-in-law Dell Oswalt.) The occasion was truly a testimony to what can be accomplished when God is the conduit for two hearts to communicate.
Saturday night, Muriel and I proudly sat on some cold metal bleachers at Spain Park High School’s football stadium to watch the “Sparks in The Park Marching Band Contest.” Thirteen High School marching bands from around Alabama and Georgia came together for a day-long competition. Muriel and I got to our seats around 8:30 p.m., just in time to see our granddaughter, Hannah Griffeth, take the field with the 209-member Thompson High School Marching Southern Sounds.
Band kids fully understand that their fellow band members are depending on their every step, and musical note and being in sync with the group. (No doubt, to be a successful marching band, you have to love what you do and who you do it with.) But, you can’t pull it off without good communications. Needless to say, Hannah’s grandparents were very, very proud of what we saw and what we heard. Go Marching Southern Sounds!
Fifty years of marriage or 209 High School kids playing instruments and marching in step with one another, both require ongoing communications. Well, really, they both require a sincere commitment to communicate. (Wait a minute, sincere means from the heart.)
I think the answer to why adults stop communicating is really pretty simple. Adults today have the glitter of a multitude of earthly treasures and desires that can distract the sincere heart that God gave us as a child. But, be encouraged, a Godly heart is always one beat away from revival. (You just have to communicate from the heart.)
Matthew 6:21  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
