The Division II Bulletin published their preseason outlook for men’s basketball yesterday, and the University of Montevallo was well represented in the preview.

Coach Danny Young’s squad will be returning four starters off last year’s Sweet 16 team, including All-American and Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year Troran Brown. This year, the Falcons are ranked fourth in the preseason Division II Bulletin poll, and Brown is one of two players in the southeast region selected to the “Super 16.”

The Falcons return Brown, Shykeem Jackson, Ryan May, and Larry Slaughter to the starting lineup this season. Also back for Montevallo is Kimani Key and Ibrahim Johnson, who redshirted last season, along with Cam Wiehe and Ryan Carroll.

Jackson was second last year in the PBC in three-point shooting percentage and third in made three-pointers.

Brown was first in the conference in assists, first in field goals, second in points scored, third in points per game, and fourth in steals.

Last year’s team went 26-6, winning the PBC West Division for the third consecutive year. The Falcons also made it to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship Game and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in Coach Young’s time at Montevallo.

The Falcons are the highest ranked Peach Belt Conference and southeast region team in the poll. GRU Augusta is ranked 23rd, while USC Aiken is mentioned as a team to watch.

Montevallo’s season will tip-off in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 10 in an exhibition game against The University of Alabama.
