ALABASTER – Leigh Ann Langley, owner of the Columbiana Barber Shop, is known for her Pumpkin Patch Kids who have decorated Columbiana for years. She and husband Maurice are also known for their exquisitely decorated home each Halloween located in the Wynlake Subdivision in Alabaster.

Their unique festive fall and Halloween decorations inside and outside of their home rival any home you have ever seen. Hundreds of children come each year and go around their dining room table filled with bowls of candy in a family friendly, not scary, house brimming with witches, brooms and pumpkins.

This year, in support of the Columbiana Merchants and Professionals Association Scholarship Fund, the Langleys are opening their home for a Halloween Open House fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for a $10 donation to the CMPA Scholarship Fund.

The wine and cheese party will raise funds for the CMPA’s annual scholarships to Shelby County High School and the Shelby County College and Career Center seniors.

The beautifully decorated house, located at 289 Wynlake Drive, Alabaster, is filled with antiques and vintage Halloween collectibles that Langley has been collecting for her whole life. Her collection, some call obsession, began when she was a child living in the Kingdom, a rural community outside of Columbiana. Her parents were A.J. and Imogene Austin.

Her paternal Aunt Glenda Kilgore, who died last year, gave her a holiday nick knack ever holiday. They were antique dolls, Santa Claus, Easter bunnies and ceramic pumpkins. Over the years, Langley’s favorite holiday became Halloween and she has amassed a collection that is literally in the thousands of items taking weeks to decorate her home and shop. From black lace curtains to a haunted tree with hand-painted ornaments for her eight grandchildren, from hundreds of different ceramic pumpkins to a vintage broom collection, Langley’s home is simply amazing!
