Steele New takes Shelby County Coroner race

Diana Steele New won the race for the Shelby County Coroner after defeating Libertarian candidate Shane Carlisle in the Nov. 4 election.

Steele New received 39,140 votes, or 86.01 percent, with 48 of 49 precincts reporting as of 10:50 p.m. Steele New, the incumbent from Shelby, has been serving in the position since 2006.

“I am honored to have the confidence of the citizens of Shelby County and to continue to be their coroner for another term,” Steele New said via email on Nov. 4. “I will continue to work hard and do my best for the people  of Shelby County. Thank you again for the chance to serve my county as coroner.”

Calls placed to the Carlisle campaign were unreturned as of 11:37 p.m. on Nov. 4.
