“The favorite part of my day is getting to go to P.E. with my students. Physical education is my field of study, and it’s what I really enjoy,” said Jason Wyatt, Staff Support Person of the Month at Creek View Elementary School in Alabaster.

Working from Mrs. Allen’s, Mrs. Brooks’, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Tilley’s rooms, Wyatt loves the variety of students, subjects and never-ending situations.

One could hardly expect a dull moment as most of his students are first-graders, although kindergarten, second and third grades also make use of this “helper” at various times.

Wyatt’s mother is an administrative assistant at the University of Montevallo, and his dad is a mechanic at Carmax.

He has one sister, Heather Keahey, who is a counselor at Oak Mountain Middle School and Shelby County High School.

A Thompson High School graduate, Wyatt graduated from the University of Montevallo in 2012 and has been employed at Creek View Elementary since October 2013.

During four years of college, Wyatt worked at the Medicine Chest (a local pharmaceutical compounding company) in Alabaster.

Wyatt’s favorite hobbies are watching Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves and fishing with his dad Chris or his buddy Derek Lawley.

A cruise to the Bahamas whetted his appetite for more trips, with the next one being to Hawaii.

“I love the ocean and want to experience the beaches and shores in more detail than you can do in one day on the cruises,” Wyatt said.

When asked if he was into snorkeling, scuba diving and the like, his answer was no, but it seemed he could really get into the whole “ocean” idea.

Wyatt attends Church of the Highlands in Riverchase and seems to be well grounded in what he really wants.

His immediate goal is to find a full-time teaching job in the field he loves: elementary physical education.

“I have no desire to ‘coach’ but more to plan, play and teach physical education to our youngsters,” Wyatt said.

One of Wyatt’s other longterm goals is to own a home on the lake.

Jason Wyatt is a young man who seems well on his way to attaining his goals.
