Robert “Bobby” Bowdon, age 80, of Calera, died Thursday, Dec. 25.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at Bolton Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Pastor Joe Raines officiating. Burial will follow in Shelby Memory Gardens. The visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at the funeral home.
Mr. Bowdon is survived by his wife, Janice B. Bowdon; cousins, Bill Cone of Fairhope, Bob Gunn (Debbie) of Fort Worth, Texas, Jim Gunn of Dallas, Texas, and Glenn Gunn (Lauri) of Plano, Texas; sisters in law, Sudie Vaughan (Ben) and Mary Kay Bailey (Steve); nieces and nephews, Rhonda Spangler (David), Tim Vaughan (Amanda), Brian Bailey and Molly Bailey; great nieces and nephews, Austin and Anna Morgan Spangler, and Gracie and Mary Claire Vaughan; and many special family members and friends.
Mr. Bowdon graduated from Marion Military Institute and attended Auburn University and Montevallo College. His first job was selling tires for his father and later sold cars at his dealership. After returning from the Army in 1960 he started working at Bowdon’s Economy Store.
In 1960, he bought the business from his father and renamed it Bobby Bowdon’s Discount Furniture and was actively involved in all phases of the business until 2013 when his health became an issue.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Methodist Children’s Home.
