DECATUR–Prior to the Oak Mountain Lady Eagles basketball game against Cold Springs on Monday, Dec. 29, Oak Mountain senior Madison Pierce needed just three points to secure her place in OMHS basketball history.

In the first quarter of the game, Pierce went up and under the basket, where she made a two-point basket and was subsequently fouled. Pierce sat at 999 career points and then sunk the free throw to surpass 1,000 career points in her high school career.

“It was a great accomplishment and she was recognized in the first quarter of the game by the public address announcer and was given flowers,” said Nancy Pierce, mother of Madison.

Oak Mountain did not win the game, as they were defeated in the loser’s bracket of the Decatur Holiday Tournament as Pierce finished the game with 16 points.

“She is looking to continue to play basketball after high school but still doesn’t know for sure where she is going to attend school,” said Nancy.
