John Rene Lau, 94, of Alabaster, passed away Friday, Jan. 2.
He was born Nov. 17, 1920 in Greenwich Village, NYC to Louis and Albertine, recent French immigrants.
John was a graduate of Fordham University with graduate courses at Columbia University. He served as a Major in World War II with the 5th and 13th Air Forces in New Guinea and Philippines 1942-1946.
After 31 years as a financial analyst with General Foods Corp., John and his wife, the former Raymonde LeVoyer, retired to Hampstead, North Carolina in 1983. In 2004, they relocated close to family in Pelham.
Survivors include John’s wife of 68 years, Raymonde Lau; four children, JoAnne Lau Hoff (d.Chris), Richard (Patty), Father Jack, OMI, and Jeff (JoAnn); eight grandchildren, Stephen Hoff (Stephanie), Jennifer Hoff Friedman (Michael), Megan Lau (Matt), Allison Hoff Festavan (Cade), Thomas Lau (Emily), James Lau (Corinna), Michael and Christopher Lau; and six great-grandchildren, Sam, Louis, Ben Hoff, Joey and Jack Friedman, and Campbell Festavan.
Visitation will be one hour before the 11 a.m. mass on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, followed by the 1:15 p.m. committal service at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo. John’s son, Father John-Raymond Lau, OMI, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Vitas Hospice, 567 1st Street North, Alabaster, AL 35007.
