HELENA–The Calera Lady Eagles picked up a much needed road win as they defeated The Helena Lady Huskies 65-57 on Friday, Jan. 9 at Helena High School.

Led by junior Tyesha Haynes 28 points, the Lady Eagles were too much for the Huskies.

“They played with intensity and got after it really well,” Calera Head Coach James Knowles said after the game. “We knew we had to play for four quarters and we did that.”

Calera trailed 11-9 at the end of the first quarter but used a 7-0 second quarter run to go ahead 28-24 at halftime.

The sharp shooting of Haynes continued in the second half, as the Huskies had no match for the talented junior.

“She’s a really, really good basketball player,” said Knowles. “She’s very skilled with the ball. If we want to take a shot she’s the one that’s going to take it and she does a great job for us.”

Jennifer Brown led Helena with 19 points.
