HELENA–The Helena Lady Huskies used relentless full-court pressure and capitalized on numerous turnovers as they went on to defeat the Shelby County Lady Wildcats 49-29 on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

The Lady Huskies started the game on an 8-2 run and never looked back. Shelby County never felt comfortable dealing with the pressure Helena placed on them as the Lady Huskies turned many of the Lady Wildcat mistakes into points.

The third quarter is where Helena really started to pull away, as Jordan Jones got a steal and lay up resulting from the Lady Huskies full-court pressure.

Jones led Helena with 15 points for the game.

“I really just think that our defense has picked up considerably over the last two or three games,” Helena Lady Huskies coach Jason Ford said after the game. “That’s the way we play, that’s what we do. We press and try to use our pressure to create easy offense for us and put teams in a tough situation.”

The Lady Wildcats managed to score just 14 second half points compared to Helena’s 27.

Keelie Yowe led Shelby County with 10 points in the loss.

Helena will travel to play Jemison on Thursday, Jan. 15 while Shelby County will play Sylacauga at home on Friday, Jan. 16.
